Paul Abbott, one of the most successful TV writers to hail from the region, is reported to be on the verge of taking full control of his production company Tightrope Pictures.
Tightrope man Abbott The firm has a base in London and Manchester and has been behind a host of acclaimed productions including The Children, Dad and the Emmy award winning The Girl in the Café.Abbott founded Tightrope alongside producer Hilary Bevan Jones in 2003 and will now, according to a report in yesterday’s Guardian, buy out her share to assume total control, in the process renaming the firm Abbott Productions. A spokesperson for Abbott, perhaps best known as the creator of enduring Channel 4 series Shameless, stated: “Abbott's plan is to establish an innovative model for the creation, production and distribution of world-class drama, putting writing talent on top of the supply chain.” The split is said to be amicable, with the two looking forward to working again on future projects. The newly renamed Abbott Productions will sit under the wing of the writer’s Abbott Vision firm. www.tightropepictures.com Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
