How-Do 100’er, creator of Grange Hill and all-round champion of everything Liverpool Phil Redmond has been making an effort to help disadvantaged youngsters develop their writing skills.
Redmond, also the creative director for Liverpool’s 08 celebrations, has visited the NCH Knowsley Family Intervention Project (FIP) to assist in the charity’s ‘writers in residence’ program that it has created in conjunction with the BBC.
Redmond: down with the kids
The initiative sees Lucia Hayes, a writer for the BBC’s Doctors, working alongside children at the centre to develop an animated online soap. A group from Liverpool John Moores University are assisting with the animation.
Redmond popped in to assess their progress and offer tips with Mick Ord from the BBC.
Karen Fletcher, the project manager at NCH Knowsley FIP, said of his visit: “Phil Redmond’s visit was a brilliant experience for our young people, and something they’ll never forget.
“We can’t thank him and Mick Ord enough for taking time out of their busy days to come and see us. I think the workshops at the project have given the young people a wonderful opportunity to express themselves and let their ideas be heard. This is something they wouldn’t normally have the chance to get involved with."
The NCH’s FIP scheme works in partnership with Knowsley Council to help families at risk of eviction and homelessness as a result of anti-social behaviour.
