Preston Council has extended its interactive digital TV site Preston Connected TV, adding a new facility that allows Sky and Virgin users to house hunt from the comfort of their own armchairs.
Get yourselves Connected The council introduced the TV service last year and has since looked to fine tune it with layout improvements, design modifications and better accessibility. It has also now been made available on WAP enabled phones and 3-mobiles. The latest move sees the in-house team introducing the Select Move feature to allow local residents to search and apply for social rented housing across the Preston and South Ribble areas. Those wishing to do so can also browse a Select Move website online – something they can gain access to at the council's 12 free-to-use Preston Connected internet kiosks, which are located across the city. Explaining the developments, deputy council leader and cabinet member for resources Eric Fazackerley said: “Digital TV allows people to access local services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. "It is growing in popularity and will be accessible to most of the population when the analogue signal is switched off next year. "This means that the potential for using digital TV to access services such as Select Move is enormous and will give us more opportunities to take them straight to the heart of communities that need them most.” www.selectmove.co.uk
