Proud FM dismisses reports of back-sliding on location and investment in the locality | Print |  Email to a friend
Proud FM, which recently won a licence to broadcast in an area covering Preston, Chorley and Leyland, has generated some controversy by apparently suggesting that the location of the new station could be based anywhere: in particular co-locating with the franchise holder’s (UTV Radio) North West broadcast central base in Newton-le-Willows where Tower, Wish and Wire share services.
The company, which saw off three rival bidders for the franchise, is currently recruiting for presenters, journalists, sales execs and programmers but The Lancashire Evening Post reported that interested applicants were being advised that the posts would be based at UTV’s broadcast hub in Merseyside.

When questioned by How-Do, John Barnett, chairman of Proud angrily dismissed the reports as a “Load of rubbish. We are actively seeking premises in the Preston, Chorley and Leyland area although Preston is the most likely choice. We are also currently undertaking extensive research with the local community to ensure our offering is the most relevant to the people of this area.”

He added the launch plans are progressing well and he anticipates broadcasting starting some time between autumn and the New Year.
