Radio City reports huge interest in its Tall Ships web cam | Print |  Email to a friend

Radio City has reported a huge upsurge in traffic to its website as a result of the station setting up a web cam on the roof of its Tower production base to cover the arival and start of the Tall Ships race in Liverpool over the weekend and into Monday.

The offices of Radio City and City Talk are based 450 feet up the tower and provide spectacular views of the city.

Radio City has reported a huge upsurge in traffic to its website as a result of the station setting up a web cam on the roof of its Tower production base to cover the arival and start of the Tall Ships race in Liverpool over the weekend and into Monday.
Over 70 sailing vessels berthed in the city's Wellington and Albert docks.

Jonathan Breeze, the station’s web editor told How-Do the station’s presenters “gave the web cam initiative welly on air” and as a consequence over 50,000 unique visitors came to the site over the four days. However, said Breeze, the biggest impact was on page impressions which peaked on Monday at just shy of 500,000 as the spectacle drew to a close.

This impression figure is what the station would typically record in a month. In total said Breeze, the Radio City web site has attracted almost 1.3m page impressions for July so far and he added that the “response from our listeners to this initiative has been really positive.”

Breeze also said that Bauer, the station’s owners, had been surprised and delighted with the digital response to the launch of fellow city station City Talk earlier this year.

City Talk he said had attracted around 10,500 unique listening visitors in June, a figure which was ahead of more established Bauer stations such as Aire in Leeds and TFM in Stockton.

Radio City’s digital audience hovers between 38,000 to 43,000 unique listeners a month.

City Talk’s overall listening figures from Rajar won’t be available until next year.
