Rainford appointed head of communications for BBC Children's and Learning | Print |  Email to a friend
Monday, 08 February 2010
Claire Rainford, the current head of Communication North with the BBC, is to become the head of communications across the BBC’s Children's and Learning departments.

These two departments are among the five departments which are relocating to Salford from London over the next 18 months. Rainford will be dividing her time between Salford and London during this period.

Simon Hailes, a media relations manager in the BBC press office in London will be the acting head of communications at BBC North, based in Manchester, until a replacement for Rainford is found.

Claire Rainford, the current head of Communication North with the BBC, is to become the head of communications across the BBC’s Children's and Learning departments.
Rainford’s current remit includes managing press & PR for local and regional output, liaising with network colleagues on programmes made in the North and managing a programme of opinion forming activities.

Rainford joined the BBC eight years ago having spent the past four in her current role.   She began her BBC career in Manchester as the publicist for religious programming before being promoted to manage the Northern press office. Over the past two years, she has also been actively involved in communications around the BBC's move to its new centre in Salford Quays.

Prior to joining the BBC she worked for the PR agency Kenyon Fraser in Liverpool and in communications for the NHS with the St Helens & Knowsley Health Authority.

LFC fan Rainford told How-Do she was really looking forward to the new challenge and the opportunities that were likely to arise as the BBC helped develop, what is increasingly likely to be seen in coming years, as one of the world’s leading centres for children’s TV production.

Doesn't exactly sound like a mission-critical post, really, does it? Especially this bit; ".....managing a programme of opinion forming activities....."

Based solely on the story above, which is all I know about her, but watching how these intertwining and strategic promotions work out. I suggest she might well become one of the most important women in NW Media.
