Rajar figures – radio's regional winners and losers | Print |  Email to a friend
Monday, 14 May 2007
BBC Radio took almost 57% of the total radio listening audience across the UK for the three months ending 25 March 2007.

This was the Beeb’s highest share for many years

Some of the national and larger regional commercial stations held up well but overall it’s the smaller local commercial stations which are finding the going toughest.

Commercial broadcasters however pointed out that in fact their overall reach of listeners actually increased by 2.5% year on year. Commercial stations are also keen to reiterate that they typically pick up many more of the ‘key’ 15 to 44 year old demographic with the BBC generally appealing to older audiences.

Commercial stations are also picking up the overwhelming majority of digital listeners.

In the North West, the three BBC stations for Cumbria, Merseyside and the Potteries retain their extremely high share of their local audiences while BBC Manchester's penetration remains one of the lowest in the UK.

Local stations The Bee, The Buzz, 106.7 KCR, Imagine and 107.6 Juice all command local audience shares of under 4%.
