Imagine FM’s new owner, Mondiale, has serious work to do, as the radio station’s listening figures continue their downward spiral.
From 39,000 and a 3.1% share in June last year, the latest December statistics show just 27,000 listeners tune in (a 1.2% share).
Mondiale Publishing bought the UTV station earlier this week and is already broadcasting its own local content, although much of the branding still remains the same.
We tried to get in touch with Mondiale, but were unable to get a comment by the time of going to press.
Penk Meanwhile Steve Penk’s move into radio ownership may have annoyed The Revolution’s indie fanbase, but an increase in reach by 2000 since September appears to show that Oldham wanted pop: "This is an unequivocal vote of confidence in the new format," said Penk. "What’s especially encouraging is the fact that these figures contain data from before and after the format change which suggests that we are now performing even better."
Bauer Media-owned City Talk in Liverpool and Manchester’s Rock Radio are reporting their first Rajar figures this quarter. Now a year old, City Talk had a 63,000 reach, just short of its 75,000 target. While Rock Radio managed 139,000, again not quite meeting the 228,000 it predicted. "The past year has been an amazing experience for all involved with City Talk and we have gone from strength to strength establishing the station as ‘The Voice of Liverpool’," said station director, Richard Maddock "Talk radio is a unique environment and we are the only local all talk commercial station outside of London. For us to attract this kind of listenership within our founding year is a great achievement and one that we hope to build on." Meanwhile the other Bauer stations have held their own, Key 103 is still out-performing Century in Manchester and Radio City is still dominating the west of the region. "Again we are delighted to retain our strong market leadership in what is deemed by most as a challenging time for the industry," commented Bauer Radio’s North West managing director Michelle Surrell. Nationally 45.5m adults listen to the radio each week, with the digital uptake still growing (up 35% year on year). The biggest growth area is via mobile phone with a 39% year on year growth among 15-24s. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
