A brace of Manchester production companies have been nominated in the BBC’s inaugural Audio Drama Awards.
Made in Manchester has been shortlisted in the Best Online Drama category, for Rock about Hollywood legend, Rock Hudson. While Red is in the Best Audio Drama category for the Radio 4 production, A Shoebox of Snow, by Julie Mayhew. It's also up for the Imison Award for Best Radio Drama Script, broadcast by a new writer - this is for Amazing Grace by Michelle Lipton. The Red Productions were produced and directed by Justine Potter of Savvy Productions.
The awards have been designed to “celebrate and recognise the cultural importance of audio drama on air and online.” The winners will be announced at a ceremony later this month, hosted by actor David Tennant.
“When we set out on this project we were determined to introduce radio drama to fresh new audiences and we’ve certainly succeeded in that. Thousands of people have been listening to our productions from all around the world,” said Made in Manchester’s Ashley Byrne.
“Radio drama is a brilliant way to break new writing and new talent and we’ve been delighted to have the support of such big names too. Rock is brilliantly written and directed by Tim Fountain, the actors are excellent and producer Iain Mackness has done a fantastic job. It’s a quality piece.”

Good luck to Justine and Red. Far and away the best production.
