Rock FM has teamed up with Lancashire mobile phone recycling company mopay.co.uk in a campaign to encourage listeners and consumers to hand in their old mobile handsets in exchange for cash.
The theme of the campaign is built around recycling and the proceeds will go to various third world nations.
A number of newspapers and companies have recently started promoting similar initiatives but Rock believes it is the first in the UK to include recycling events as part of a wider promotional drive.
Breakfast co-host Gemma Dee will host a number of such events across Rock FM’s catchment area.
The station claims that the Lancashire region alone could be home to over one million unused mobile phones lying around peoples’ homes. The station suggests that higher prices can be paid for the phones than most people realise with some phones fetching as much as £400 - dependent on the make, model and condition of the phone.
