The Royal Television Society North West has announced that its annual awards scheme will be gracing the Hilton Deansgate in Manchester for 2009, with the event due to take place on Saturday 14 November.
Shameless a winner in 2008
The RTS scheme is arguably the single most important dedicated awards event for the television sector in the region, regularly bringing together the biggest names in the industry and honoring everyone from soap stars, to directors, writers and individual shows.
Last year's event saw Shameless, The Street, Dragon's Den, Grange Hill and North West Tonight secure some of the headline awards in a evening that takes in 21 competing categories.
In a reflection of the state of an industry ravaged by cutbacks and ongoing financial uncertainties the RTS has this year taken the decision to halve the price of entries.
It now costs £55 plus VAT to get your submission in front of the judging panel.
Speaking of this year's scheme - and the financial climate - RTS NW Chair, Helen Bullough, said: "We're fantastically proud of our creative industries, and we're also acutely aware that everyone is operating in a difficult financial climate; making the achievements and output of individuals, companies and broadcasters in the North West even more of a cause for celebration.”
