The University of Salford has 2 graduates in one movie as Fifty Dead Men Walking opens this week.
You call this a Hall of Residence? Jim Sturgess, who graduated with an HND in Media and Performance in 1999, plays an IRA informant and the plot is based around his relationship with his English handler.
The English handler is played by Sir Ben Kingsley, who graduated from the Royal Technical College Salford and received an honorary degree from the establishment (by then the University) in 1981. “Having two of our graduates star together in a major film like this is really pleasing for everyone associated with our courses,” said head of performance at Salford, Denise Vernon. “It will be a real lift for our students, and give them an idea of what they can achieve if they work hard.”
Sturgess joined a working class gym in Belfast to get his voice right and stayed in the Northern Irish accent from the moment he landed in the country until the moment the shoot was finished. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
