Motive Television plc, the owner of Manchester’s Scarlet TV has signed a global distribution rights deal for a new type of digital box.
The company says that the BesTV box will allow broadcasters to receive new revenues from video on demand, catch-up television and non-linear content.
The theory is that broadcasters can use their current digital signal to send programmes and extras directly to the set-top box, so users don’t have to have an internet connection or subscription to any other service - such as cable or satellite.
"The BesTV technology is future-proof, and can operate in hybrid environments with broadband-based solutions in the next generation,” explained Adecq founders Giuseppe Flores d'Arcais and André Vanyi Robin.
“We are working with numerous broadcasting technology developers and manufacturers to ensure that the BesTV technology is incorporated in their designs.”
Motive's deal with Spanish technology company Adecq Digital SL gives them the right to offer the technology globally (apart from Spain).
"Motive has refocused its growth on the rapid rollout of DTT, the fastest-growing segment in the television industry, and this agreement to distribute BesTV is a major step forward. We believe there is a market of hundreds of broadcasters worldwide who will find this new technology essential to the growth of their business,” explained Mick Pilsworth, chairman of Motive Television PLC.
Motive holds a 50.6% share in Scarlet Television.
