Paul Abbott, creator of the TV series Shameless, is in talks with John Wells Productions (JWP), to produce a US version of the hit series.

Paul Abbott and his US team are in discussions with Woody Harrelson which may result in the actor (still best known for his part in Cheers) playing the US role of Frank Gallagher.

The original UK show is currently being broadcast on BBC America, but Abbott and JWP are in negotiations with NBC to create a US version.

Shameless is produced in the UK by Company Pictures. The script-writing team for the TV series is based in Manchester. A spokesperson for Abbott said no decision had yet been made on what role the Manchester team might have in the new US series.
