Peel Media has swooped to sign up Sinead Greenaway as the new chief executive of MediaCityUK. Greenaway joins in the autumn from Virgin Media Television, where she has held the role of operations and IT director since 2006.

In a statement from Peel Media this morning, the firm said it was welcoming Greenaway with the view to her playing a role that will be "central to the successful delivery and management of MediaCityUK."

This will include luring more tenants to join the BBC, Salford University and Northwest Vision and Media.

Greenaway: central role
Greenaway can offer the firm experience garnered from senior roles with Emap PLC and Virgin, where she spearheaded the firm's tapeless transformation -  a process that Peel claims "put Virgin at the forefront of end-to-end digital workflow within UK broadcasting."

Peel Media chairman Bryan Gray commented: "Sinead will work closely with a wide range of private and public sector partners to help realise our shared vision for MediaCityUK, both for phase one in 2011, and beyond.

"Her wide-ranging experience means Sinead will contribute valuable insight and leadership to the organisation, and help shape the future of what is arguably Europe’s most significant media development.”

Peel previously employed Bryan Greasley as the MD of the MediaCityUK project, before the two parted company in 2008 after less than a year.

Phase one of the project  is scheduled for completion in 2011.

Great to see a woman getting this key role. Mediacity and Peel were in danger of creating an old/all boys club

Rumour has it that she's pretty good at what she does. Has certainly got to be better than some of the previous representatives of Media City. Maybe they'll have the sense to engage sensibly with local business now??
