PR agency Smith & Smith has won one of its highest profile briefs to date, with the announcement that the Manchester-based team has been selected to help manage the region’s switchover to digital TV.
Smith collected the coveted assignment following on from a three-way pitch against undisclosed agencies, and will now take control of a public information campaign that will cover Granada, Cumbria and the Isle of Man. The change is coming... Speaking to How-Do about what the task entailed, agency account manager Gemma McNellis explained: “The strategy is to capitalise on our agency’s specific strengths of public affairs and the ability to reach diverse and vulnerable audiences. “The emphasis is on ensuring that we get simple, consistent and frequent messages about switchover (across) so that we can respond to specific communication needs both geographically and for Digital UK’s stakeholder groups - in particular those aged 75+, people with disabilities and ethnic minorities.” Analogue signals across the region will be switched off next year and replaced with the stronger, digital alternative. The Granada changeover, scheduled for October-December 2009, will apparently affect ten times as many homes (some 2.8m) as those attempted before then. Smith & Smith has also scored other high profile briefs so far this year, including the task of publicising clothing spin offs for Chupa Chups and Pacha. www.smithandsmithpr.co.uk Something to add?
