The BBC has headed back to the Daily Telegraph to find its new sports editor, with the appointment of David Bond to replace Mihir Bose, who resigned in August.
As for Bond, who ironically also replaced Bose as sports editor at the Telegraph, he will join the department as it gears up for the World Cup in South Africa.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which I simply couldn't turn down and I am extremely honoured to have been given the chance by the BBC. This is arguably the greatest job in sports journalism and the platform it offers, especially with the London Olympics in 2012, is unparalleled," he said.
Bond was previously sports news correspondent at The Sunday Times, then deputy sports editor at the Evening Standard, before joining the Daily Telegraph, initially as chief sports reporter.
"I am delighted David is coming on board. We are determined to develop the prominence and impact of high quality sports journalism across our news programmes and services and the Sports Editor is a pivotal role in that quest. David Bond's flair, insight, energy and expertise made him the outstanding candidate,” added Mark Byford, BBC deputy director-general.
