Ten Alps expands again with move to online video advertising | Print |  Email to a friend

The ambitious Ten Alps group, the brainchild of one Sir Bob Geldof, has bought Manchester’s Multimedia Arts (MMA), as it looks to expand into digital film production for internet advertising.

The move was first slated when CEO Adrian Dunleavy (pictured) told How-Do back in September that Ten Alps was looking to open a new digital operation in Manchester.

At the time he suggested that this may lead to the creation of 30 new jobs – it is unclear how the purchase of MMA will impact upon that initial assessment.

MMA was snapped up in a deal that is said to be worth £165,000 in cash. The move will no doubt be regarded as a canny one, as it creates a new subsidiary Ten Alps DFD (standing for Digital Film Delivery), which can produce low cost online video advertising for the group’s new and existing client base.

The MMA operation, which in the past has produced features such as What Slavery Did for Us for the History Channel and Metal Detectives for BBC’s The One Show, will now be augmented by a dedicated sales team in the city to push the new proposition to Ten Alps’ claimed pool of 61,000 clients.

Speaking about the acquisition yesterday, Dunleavy said: “The addition of MMA means we can offer a complete multi media service, in print, online and on TV from the North West.

“It specifically allows us to roll out online video advertising to our client base. Due to the advent of on line video channels, this market is growing rapidly and with advances in technology we can now deliver broadcast quality video production at a fraction of the cost of traditional TV adverts.

“MMA have already proved this can be done, by producing local commercials across Lancashire.  Now we are looking to roll this out nationally and really look forward to working with the MMA team.”

Mike Spencer and Mark Gorton, the existing directors of the firm, will continue to head up the new entity, reporting directly to Dunleavy himself.

The films produced by Ten Alps DFD, which can be made for as little as £3,000, will be rolled out through portals such as YouTube, clients' own corporate sites and Ten Alps’ own sector-specific B2B channels on Public TV.
