Factual media firm Ten Alps has released its financial results for the year ending 31 March, showing a strong performance in a market that has been hit hard by recessionary budget cuts.
Connock: 'decent' outlook
Despite a fall of 1.5% in revenue, the firm, which has key offices in Macclesfield and Manchester, posted a 5% climb in pre-tax profits to £3.3m, on a total income of £80.2m.
This, according to a statement to the market, was in part due to its focus on business to business sectors that remain resilient despite the recession - for example education, health and defence.
It also noted the success of its TV production arm (providing programming for Dispatches on Channel 4 and the BBC), the accelerated migration of its publishing from print to online and confirmed its intention to bid for local broadcast news contracts, subject to the issuing of tenders following the Digital Britain report.
Peak perfomance?
Chief executive Alex Connock noted: "2008-9 was a volatile economic landscape, but we met financial targets set out before the crisis - for which our managers and staff deserve great credit. We also strengthened our cash position.
"The new financial year has commenced with a decent order book.
"However, it is too early to assume strong organic growth from existing customers. So this year we intend to continue migrating online, targeting further margin benefits and growth opportunities."
The firm, which has also just launched its new corporate website, is currently developing online science channel Newton TV (alongside the Open University, the Science Museum and the Royal Institution) and Accountancy TV for the accounting industry.
