Production company Littlestar Media has teamed up with the National Trust and Peak Experience to launch a podcast focusing on the life, times and often pretty turbulent death of one of The Peak District's most iconic birds, the Red Grouse.
Order a grouse online now The firm has just released the first of six monthly episodes following the moorland birds through from its nesting season in spring to the shooting season in late summer. The idea is to give web users an insight into the (often pretty short) life of this distinctive creature, while illustrating how the National Trust carefully manages their population and promotes the well being of its natural peat and moorland habitat. Episode 1 is now online and features Maria Gabriella of Littlestar talking to Mike Innerdale, National Trust High Peak estate property manager, and Carl Hawk, National Trust East Midlands ecological adviser, in Edale. Together they discuss the landscape of the High Peak, how to spot and listen out for a red grouse, and how the moors natural environment is maintained. The Grouse podcast runs through until October. You can catch the podcast at www.peak-experience.org.uk/tourism/podcasts/ or www.nationaltrust.org.uk/redgrouse
