The Revolution announces new line up | Print |  Email to a friend

Just a week since taking control of Oldham’s 96.2 The Revolution , Steve Penk has announced the station’s new line up.

This includes Penk himself, ex Radio 1 presenter Gary King, James H Reeve and Pat Sharp.

"To me it was just crazy for a locally-focused station to be going for a minority audience by playing specialist rock music”, said Penk.

"And a ‘flip’ back to the original AC (adult contemporary - ed) format seemed the obvious way forward. I am absolutely delighted with the quality of the team joining me for the re-launch."

It’s a long way removed from the indie music of old, even down to the idents which have been created TM in Dallas.

How-Do has had a lot of correspondence from angry Revolution fans of old, but Penk points us to the figures, 80,000 listeners in 2004 (when it was an adult contemporary station) and just 17,000 in the last Rajar report, following the switch to indie and rock.

Penk will be presenting the weekday breakfast show and on Saturday’s his "signature" Wind-Up show.
Gary Kind will be the mid-morning host.
James H Reeve will take on the Saturday afternoon sports show.
On weekends Gary King will present Totally 80’s and Pat Sharp will do the Weekend Vibe.

"There will more surprises along the way", added Penk. "I’ve invested a lifetime’s work in this venture and I’m determined to give this great part of the North West the station it deserves. I am very confident that with the new team in place we can achieve just that."

Is there any radio station in Greater Manchester that James H Reeve hasn't worked for?

Poor station, just shoot it now and put it out of it's misery.

Personally I loved the Revolution of the past few years. I wanted something different on the drive to work. And the old Rev delivered in spades.

RIP Rev - I'm off to find a choon and turn it up to 11. Shame it won't be on 96.2 anymore

Give the guy a break you moaning gits.
Commercial radio stations have got to make money.
How much money did you and all your indy mates spend on the old Rev in advertising??

Precisely, Brewster. Spot on. When the format flip to Indie music happened in 2005 you have to ask yourself "what the hell were they thinking???" It was doomed from the start, and I think comparing the audience figures from when it was a mainstream pop station to how it was when it started playing obscure indie durge speaks volumes! It failed, get over it and tune into Radio Republic if and when they can scrape the funds together. Good luck to the All New Revolution. It's already been re-programmed back into my car radio.
