ITV’s ‘Street’ may not be quaking in its boots just yet, but the rating’s performance of Jimmy McGovern’s The Street for BBC1 left everything else in its timeslot for dead last week.
Thelwis The show, which focuses on the complex existences of the people inhabiting a single Manchester street, returned to its 9pm Thursday slot and clocked up an all time ratings high of 5.7million viewers. In doing so it beat its record from the first six-part outing of 5.4million, while comfortably trumping the average for the channel’s coveted primetime slot (5million).Coming from the pen of the award-winning Cracker scriptwriter (although not everyone’s been impressed with his work of late), The Street has so far generated positive notices from critics as well as healthy audience figures. This is in part due to strong performances from a cast that is nothing short of stellar; boasting turns from David Thelwis, Timothy Spall and Mark Benton amongst others. The Street totally dominated the viewing for the Thursday evening slot, with no other channel surpassing the 3million mark. http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/thestreet/ Something to add?
