Manchester independent radio producer, All Out, has produced three new programmes for the BBC: two for the Asian network and one for Radio 4. It has also won a major commission to produce substantial content for the Asian Nation web site.
All three programmes will be broadcast in August.
The two for the BBC Asian Network are My Life, My Roots - In Music, presented by Nihal and Asian Nation. The Radio 4 commission is Polio - The Rumour That Became A Crisis.
Nihal Nihal’s programme, part of the Beeb’s Asian summer season, commemorates the 60th anniversary of the partition of India, tells the story of the music that Asian immigrants brought with them to the UK. Some of the biggest names in British Asian music from Nitin Sawhney, to Jay Sean, Talvin Singh and Richie Rich reflect on their own contribution to the UK music scene and ask how much 'being Asian' defines their music.
Asian Nation offers listeners a ‘snapshot’ of British Asian life and examines what it means to be young British and Asian today.
In addition to the radio programmes, All Out is producing audio, visual and written content for the new Asian Nation site as well as a series of short films, a further 35 short audio pieces and two half hour documentaries.
All Out’s latest commission from Radio 4 is 'Polio - The Rumour That Became A Crisis'.
Four years ago, rumours surrounding the safety of the polio vaccine led to it being banned in Northern Nigeria and a subsequent global health scare that paralysed 1500 children and threatened to cause the downfall of the multi billion dollar Polio Eradication Campaign. All Out explored why it took so long to reintroduce the vaccines and if the crisis could have been prevented. www.allout.co.uk
