Trio of North West firms get BBC Sport commissions

BBC Sport has revealed the 3 companies that have won commissions through the BBC North Kicker Fund initiative.

PDI Media, the newly relocated Deltatre Media and North Star TV have all had orders from the Salford-based BBC Sport.

Launched in February last year, the fund has been set up to invest in original productions from the North of England.

Slater“We were delighted with the high calibre and number of documentary ideas that were submitted as part of the development process. The winning submissions are innovative and insightful programming concepts and I look forward to seeing the final product on screen in the near future. The Sport North Kicker Fund further demonstrates the BBC’s support for engaging with creative talent in the North of England,” said  Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport.

PDI Media will produce a documentary on sports promoter, Barry Hearn. Hearn is the chairman of Leyton Orient and the Professional Darts Corporation and is also a director of World Snooker. The programme will be aired ahead of next year’s World Snooker Championships at The Crucible.

Meanwhile deltatre Media, which opened an office in Salford Quays this June has been commissioned to produce an investigative documentary around sexism in football. It will be presented by Gabby Logan and air on BBC One.

Finally North Star TV will collaborate with BBC Sport to produce a Michael Vaughan-fronted documentary about how sports players come to terms with life after sport at the top level.
