Twenty four North West companies chosen for @North initiative

As trailed by How-Do last week, the BBC has chosen the companies it wishes to participate in the new @North commissioning initiative which is being led by the BBC Children’s department which is moving to Salford next year.

Forty companies from across the North have been selected including 24 from the North West: 20 from Greater Manchester and four from Merseyside. (The names of the 24 companies are detailed at the foot of this story). The ultimate prize is for four companies who will share around £500,000 in commissioning projects for CBBC and Cbeebies.

The selected companies will now be allocated experts to work alongside them at workshop days in small groups, with subject matter spanning both children’s content and technology and subsequently also with creative and technical mentors from the BBC.

The @North project is intended to help encourage the development of a larger regional supply base of indies around the BBC to deliver multi platform content targeted at children.

Adrian Mills, who is leading the project on behalf of BBC Children’s, said: “This new development process is about bringing people, technology and creativity together. We are excited to be working with the successful companies across the North to help develop bold ideas into fresh new content for our online users and audiences.”
