The University of Salford has scored a high profile new appointment, with the recruitment of John Holland, the BBC’s former head of interactive TV and digital text services.
Holland, currently a London-based consultant, is joining the institution in the New Year in a role that will see him leading its initiatives relating to the MediaCityUK development.  Holland comes to Salford These will include new joint courses, enterprise training for undergraduate Salford students and placements within the BBC.Professor Michael Harloe, the University’s vice-chancellor, said of Holland: “John’s appointment marks a key development in the University’s vision for MediaCityUK. “As an internationally recognised media expert, he will ensure that this enormous opportunity is fully exploited for the University. “I’m confident that he will make a major contribution to the success of this exciting and globally important development.” Holland himself added: “Digital-based businesses in the north will receive a tremendous boost from the arrival of the BBC and other media organisations at Salford Quays, and the University stands to benefit across all departments, including additional research openings, training and jobs for graduates.” The university - the first in Greater Manchester to sign a partnership agreement with the BBC – will now be looking to make the most of Holland’s client and agency-side experience, as well as exploiting his relationship with the broadcasting giant.
