How-Do has learnt that the group managing director of UTV Radio Chris Hurst is set to leave the business at the end of this month as a result of “a continued programme of restructuring across the group.”
Hurst has been with the business for some 18 years and, according to an internal statement seen by How-Do, “has been instrumental in the development of the division.” UTV has a strong presence in the region and controls stations such as Juice 107.6, Tower FM, Wire FM and Wish FM. On a national basis it is perhaps best known as the owner/operator of talkSPORT. Hurst The last year has seen it launch cost cutting drives that saw the group attempt to relocate Stockport’s Imagine FM – a failed bid that led to the station’s sale – and recently the closure of Edinburgh-based Talk107.Industry commentators will no doubt see Hurst’s departure in the context of these broader developments. A spokesperson for UTV Radio confirmed to How-Do that Hurst was leaving the company. When quizzed on whom would take over his responsibilities they noted, “there’s yet to be an announcement on that matter.” The internal statement quoted Hurst, who said of his departure: “I have had the pleasure of working alongside some very talented individuals and we have had some tremendous high points growing the ILRs from one station to the current 17. “I wish everyone at UTV all the best for the future”. Hurst is also chairman of Dee 106.3 in Chester. www.utvradio.com Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
