102.4 Wish FM has gone green in an attempt to make Wigan a plastic bag free zone.
The radio station has run a campaign to promote bags for life, which have been produced by the local authority. "The station has an important role to play in helping to promote this campaign and we encourage all listeners to think again about taking shopping home in plastic bags when bags for life are available," said Mike Baker, senior station director.
Wish FM "It is our aspiration that Wigan should become a plastic bag free town and we want the public to help us achieve that status," said Nick Burdekin, environmental education coordinator for Wigan Council.
"The overall aim is to make our town centre cleaner and greener places to live, work and visit. Wigan Council has provided the participating businesses with 'Bags for Life' to give to their customers instead of a plastic bag."
Wish FM are owned by UTV and have today seen a small rise in their Rajar listening figures, to give them a 7.6% audience share.Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
