Xfm Manchester is launching its Rock School initiative for the third year on the trot, as it looks to pick the best bands out of the region’s classrooms and propel them into the spotlight.
School kids rock... The promotion sees aspiring youngsters submitting their own versions of classic and current indie and alternative tracks, with a group of judges, led by the station’s very own Clint Boon, then picking out the headline acts. The winning group receives £1,000 to spend on music equipment for their school at Dawsons Music, a day's recording at the Xfm Manchester studios, a rock'n'roll makeover courtesy of Bench and a professional photo shoot with rock photographer Shirlaine Forrest. Boon said of the initiative: “This is something that I have been really excited about after the success of last year. I can’t wait to see what secret prodigies are hidden out there in schools all over the North West.” Bands have until midnight on Wednesday 26 November to email in their entries, with selected tracks being player on air. Last year youngsters Tinmen walked away with the top prize. www.xfm.co.uk/rockschool
