In the City, the annual music industry shindig created by the recently departed Anthony H Wilson, will be going ahead as usual this year, with continued support from Gcap Media’s Xfm.
The weekend-long industry showcase, festival and all round party up will be held from 20-22 October, despite Wilson’s untimely passing last month. His Tony Wilson partner and ITC co-founder Yvette Livesey has since publicly committed herself to continuing the event into the future.
For its part Xfm will be holding a series of ‘Breakthrough’ gigs, in partnership with headline sponsor Topman, to promote fresh talent from across the UK. The line-up for the concerts, taking place on the Sunday and Monday, includes London’s Scouting for Girls, Liverpool’s The Wombats and local Manc heroes The Courteneers.
Commenting on the event Xfm Manchester’s head of music, Mike Walsh said: “I’m really confident about this year’s line up, I think it will be an amazing one to look back on”.
Yvette Livesey added: “We’re delighted to be working with Xfm at this year’s In The City; they have their fingers on the pulse of new, exciting music and we’re sure ‘Breakthrough’ will be a great success.” Tickets for the events will not be on sale and can only be won on 97.7 Xfm Manchester or www.xfmmanchester.co.uk.
