MC2, Golley Slater and other marketing services companies are understood to be in early or advanced negotiations with digital agencies in the region with a view to acquisition.
Golley Slater, which currently has just a PR operation in Manchester, is believed to be talking to agencies about either acquiring them outright or in other instances smooching key figures within agencies in case they can be tempted to jump ship and join what would be a brand new digital operation for Golley in Manchester.
Last year Golley bought a Cambridge-based digital agency Green Cathedral which has revenues of circa £6m.
Perls
At the beginning of this year, Manchester marketing and PR agency MC2 bought rival PR agency Vertigo and MC2’s MD Mike Perls said his ambition was to create the most successful independent marketing services agency in the region. He said at the time that MC2 planned to make further acquisitions if and when appropriate.
It now seems that the agency is indeed in talks with one or more digital agencies although Perls declined to comment on the matter.
Elsewhere in the region, agencies from Chester and Liverpool are believed to be exploring potential opportunities in Manchester while other digital agencies have told How-Do that at least two other sizeable national network agency groupings have also recently come knocking on agencies’ doors.
It seems that several digital agencies and their more recession-proof attractions are likely to be changing hands in the coming months.
