Bolotin’s campaign for a BBC Cheshire website to be aired on BBC News 24 | Print |  Email to a friend

Cheshire journalist Louise Bolotin, who has been leading a vociferous campaign for the creation of a BBC website and radio station for Cheshire, is to appear on BBC News 24 in March to present her case.
Anywhere but Cheshire
It seems a combination of angry Cheshire ratepayers contacting the Beeb combined with Bolotin’s ongoing campaign, has prompted Ray Snoddy’s media Newswatch team at the rolling news service to interview Bolotin about her efforts.

The programme is due to be aired on Friday 7 March. It is believed that Hugh Berlyn, head of online news at the BBC, will be guesting alongside her.

Begrudgingly Bolotin concedes that a dedicated radio station for the country is now unlikely following the news last October that advanced plans for stations in smaller counties – including Cheshire- were being axed.

However, Bolotin is still adamant that a dedicated website for Cheshire is and should be feasible – “particularly if counties such as Suffolk are able to command their own sites.”

It is thought that Cheshire will be represented in some form in the BBC’s plans for 60 plus localised micro-sites but Bolotin remains convinced that unless a site is created, the BBC’s news coverage of what affects the one million plus residents of Cheshire will remain disappointingly poor.

I'm not sure who will be on the panel. It will be someone senior in the Beeb. I asked for Hugh Berlyn as it's his patch but whether he's available and if so he'll agree is a case of wait and see!

Go for it Louise!

We spoke about the lack of news coverage for Cheshire in the North West, closure of the Granada office in Chester and ChesterTV (IPTV). If the beeb and Granada don't cover Cheshire properly, someone else will!
