CL3 launches Lewis’s first ever website | Print |  Email to a friend

The iconic Liverpool retailer - Lewis's Department Store – has just enjoyed the launch of its first ever website courtesy of digital agency CL3.
The store, established in 1856, claims to be the city’s largest independent department store – are there other contenders to be fair?

CL3 won the project last autumn following a pitch against several other Liverpool agencies. Research undertaken by Lewis’s and CL3 suggested there was strong demand from customers for online store information, offers, promotions etc.

Having now launched the site, CL3 is about to embark on an online marketing campaign.

David Thompson, a spokesperson for the retailer said:  “We hadn’t seen the need for a website for over 150 years! But we are now attracting new people to the store via the internet; the exclusive online downloads are providing the incentive to shoppers. It’s had an immediate impact.”

Lewis’s, suggests Gareth Pickering of CL3, “ is a slice of Liverpool like Macys is to New York” adding that “working closely with a Liverpool brand as well loved and recognised as Lewis’s has been a great privilege for CL3. The website will open new markets for the store and allow the brand to get national and international exposure – that’s great news for the City.”

this is really poor, sorry. looks like it's been designed by a techie

Think the website is just what Lewis's needs, and more importantly just right for their current customers (not going to scare them off) and enough to interest a new younger market. I would not have thought of going in before now but I will certainly go the next time I am out shopping.

Terrible. How will this appeal to a younger market. It looks like something from 1994.

This doesn't just look bad, it's built terribly. Seriously, it's a shocker.

For a start, it's built using tables. Tables were dismissed as a way to structure pages years ago. No good developer would build using tables these days, simple.

The inline javascript and big chunks of commented out code don't help either.

At the very least, the site needs to be rebuilt.

Wow.

Have they been working on this since 93? I'm surprised there aren't any spinning skull gifs.

How about a nice bit of "Come as You Are" in midi format, playing in the background.

A whole website dedicated to telling me whats on each floor! Terrible, just terrible. What a complete waste of time.

I think the website is very good. I enjoyed it a lot, simple, easy to navigate and i use the store. Its what i wanted.

Hmmm, methinks Debs may have something to do with client or supplier. Maybe.
