Code has further consolidated its relationship with key client HMV by launching an innovative ‘Christmas Gift Guide’ to help out web customers that are rapidly running out of ideas in the sprint-up to Xmas.

The Manchester based firm, which last week picked up the ‘best online retailer’ at the Fresh Digital Awards for its HMV work, is trying to simplify the shopping task with a three step online programme.

Available through the main website itself, and as a click through on a mailer to be sent out this week, the guide asks users questions about the person they’re buying for – utilising the answers to offer them a selection of three potentially perfect present matches. The guide works across music releases, DVD’s and console games.

Apart from the gift guide feature, Code is also looking to drive customers to the site through a series of sales support emails and a 15% off viral discount voucher that has been doing the rounds recently, with some success. This is supposedly one of the key attributors to a spike in conversion rates, which have almost trebled since the voucher's release.

As with all retailers, on and off line, Christmas is a critically important trading period for HMV and Code have been tasked with wringing the best results from a hugely competitive market.

The firm has worked with HMV since 2002, and has been the brand's retained digital design agency since 2006. In September Code re-launched HMV’s online proposition as part of a larger brand overhaul.
