The North West Trades Union Congress has launched a website which showcases photographs of peoples’ working lives in Liverpool as part of the city’s Capital of Culture celebrations.

The North West Trades Union Congress has launched a website which showcases photographs of peoples’ working lives in Liverpool as part of the city’s Capital of Culture celebrations.
The site www.unions08.co.uk features photographs from amateurs and professionals and cash prizes of £250 will be made available. The TUC is hoping that some photos will be eventually be displayed in the city’s galleries.

Manchester agency Connectpoint has developed the site and will also be undertaking the marketing to encourage people to take part in the competition.

Anne Thornton, arts co-ordinator at the North West TUC said: “We are delighted with our new website, which not only looks really good visually but also incorporates all the elements that we required in terms of news and events pages.

“The design process from start to finish was professional and ran very smoothly from a customer's point of view.  Now that the site is up and running it is easy for us to update it ourselves.”

Jon Bowler, design director of Connectpoint Interactive said: “The content management system allows North West TUC staff to approve photographs before they are published on the site.  It also enables the simple publication of news and events stories which allow the inclusion of mp3 and pdf files when required.

“If no pdf or sound files are available, the system automatically removes this navigation from the page, giving the North West TUC full control of the content.  A selection of stock images has been created and stored in the CMS so that whenever a story is posted that does not have its own accompanying image, a stock image can be used to preserve the integrity of the site design.”

Connectpoint is a subsidiary of Hasgrove plc
