Dom Rodwell joins CBJWT as digital creative director | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 22 January 2010

David Bell, the co-founder and CEO of CheethamBellJWT, has revealed that the firm has signed up former Flame Digital chief Dom Rodwell to the position of digital creative director.
David Bell, the co-founder and CEO of CheethamBellJWT, has revealed that the firm has signed up former Flame Digital chief Dom Rodwell (pictured) to the position of digital creative director.

Rodwell apparently joined the business last week, following on in the immediate aftermath of the decision to put Flame into administration. His appointment will extinguish rumours that have been circulating suggesting he may have been set to help a 'phoenix' agency emerge from Flame's ashes.

In his new role Rodwell will be working across a client list that includes names such as First Direct, Magnet, bmibaby.com, John West and the Game Group.

Bell: building 'best in class'
Bell said of his new recruit: "Dom’s brief is to build a best-in-class digital team at CBJWT and continue to produce outstanding work for all our clients."

Rodwell himself said that the offer was one he "couldn't refuse," adding: "Over the coming weeks and months I'll be focusing the team on producing even more cutting-edge work for digital, mobile and other emerging platforms."

In other developments at the firm Bell insisted that the agency's results from 2009 had been 'surprisingly good' considering the economic climate and that the agency team were now enjoying a 'busy' start to the year.

He said that the loss of Kellogg's was "yet to impact" on the firm, but noted that the "wonderful working relationship" the two enjoyed could yet lead to further opportunities in the future.

If he was unable to run his own digital team at Flame it seems to be a big risk bringing him in to run a team at JWT.

Surely it would be better to get someone with a track record of success

Good on you Dom and CBJWT. Think this will suit Dom well and allow him to get on with the creative rather than the nitty gritty of running a business.
Gives the agency some added clout in digital too. A good match.

It may not be a Phoenix situation for Flame, but it certainly is for Rodwell. He certainly seems to be one to watch but perhaps for all the wrong reasons? It will not reflect too well on Bell either if the Flame clients are approached. A polite period of mourning even though Flame is still under administration (?) and hasnt blown out just yet would have been decent. Furthermore any prospective buyer of Flame is likely to think again if it perceives that what they are buying is likely to disappear overnight.

Sorry but plenty of businesses go under for lots of different reasons so don't think you can blame the guy for trying. I don't know much about Flame but surely enough people had projects and jobs that paid there salary and bills over the time the company was run, did they complain then or take the money! In business its always the company, not the suppliers who pitch, win business and then give it across the suppliers/freelancers/staff - I'm sure if Dom had wanted to he'd still be running his old business but looks like a great opportunity, don't know the guy but seems like a great fit. Also don't post back at me about suppliers/freelancers loosing money, thats not the point I'm making and i do feel sorry for them all.

No risk as CBJWT don't really have much of an existing digital rep so it can only improve

A great move for CBJWT. Nice one Dom.

Dom ran Flame successfully for over 6 years - I would call this a good track record. Bit harsh to criticise especially in the current climate.

Well done Dom.

Good on you Dom, hope it goes well fella.

Sceptic- you really need to find something better to do.

Jude - if he'd run Flame successfully then he'd still be running it. But agree with CL, Dom is great with creative but not with money - so should all work out well.
