Following hot on the heels of the news that Crimeface is up for one of the coveted Webby Awards, comes the news that CheethamBellJWT’s Go Lakes site has also been nominated in the tourism category.
Go Lakes, go!
As such it can lay the claim to being one of the best tourism sites in the world (in the top five, along with its competing nominees), as the Webbys are generally regarded as the pinnacle of achievement in terms of recognising online endeavours.

It will now compete against the South Australian Tourism Commission, the Rockefeller Centre in Manhattan, the Swedish eco-zoo Furuvik, and a website profiling Monterey County in California. The winner will be announced on 6 May at a ceremony in New York.

Since its launch the Go Lakes site has emerged as a vital driver for the tourism sector in Cumbria, attracting three million visitors a year and generating £1.9m in bookings for the various regional operators over the space of the last year.

Commenting on its success, Rachel Stott, Cumbria Tourism’s e-tourism manager, said: “As well as being hugely effective for our members and visitors, we are extremely pleased that golakes is now recognised by the world experts.”

The Go Lakes site is funded by the NWDA, who are said to be delighted at its recognition by the scheme.
