Those of you with a long memory, or interest in all things MEN/GMG, will remember that back in June How-Do broke the news of the group’s challenge to the Rightmove market with its in-development Homesmine initiative.

Since then all has been quiet on the Home front, leading some observers to quiz us as to whether the site had been mothballed in the current tricky economic climate.

Not so it appears as, in the words of Mr/Mrs/Ms X, “whilst trawling the domains owned and operated by the MEN I came across what appears to be the MEN's staging server for the forthcoming Homesmine.”

The link they sent in, seen here, provides an interesting look at this work in progress, showing a rich media site (featuring estate agent videos), with a search facility claiming to have access to 22,917 properties from 252 estate agents, alongside Google mapping facilities.

Certain estate agents are also profiled, giving users information on names such as Andrew Snape, Spencer Knight and Bridge Holmes.

The site appears to be ready to launch and (just in case the link stops working for some reason) we’ve shown a screen grab or two here to give you a taster.

Now, a big shiny thank you awaits for the first person that can find a link to the group’s next project, the Carsmine.

hmmmmm if you ask me this has got "PR stunt" written all over it... nothing adds interest like a "leak"!

Clur, if you think the group behind this are savvy enough to stage manage PR then you obviously don't know them that well!

Looks like they've got some way to go yet though. When I click the link I get this lovely error message:

Ho hum. they've taken it down already - what are they worried about i wonder?

I don't think your reader had to do much "digging around" as searching for thehomesmine in google lists demo51.gmgrd.co.uk as the second search result. May be you've uncovered the MENs secret underground lair...demo51 or should it be area51?

Am I the only person who's really annoyed by "thejobsmine".

I know you can't put apostrophes in urls, but given the print edition is also called the same, it really rankles, particularly when it's a newspaper that's doing it! Couldn't they call it thejobismine?

No, because then it wouldn't work on two levels, silly

The homesmine will never work with broken connectors like this.... http://www.thehomesmine.co.uk/dingus_tapenade/text/imga0737.jpg

Looks like the homesmine has finally gone live even though it's still full of bugs. Rightmove doesn't have anything to worry about!
