It happened as Festival organisers announced some of the newly commissioned work that will be coming to the city next year.

In addition to the site and the headline announcements - including Rufus Wainwright and Bingo at the Royal Exchange, organisers have launched a creative fund for local people.
The £750,000 MIF Creative will allow a series of community-based commissions from artists, who’ll work with local people to develop their skills.
It’s in partnership with the City Council, NWDA and National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts.
