James Stannage, last heard on Key 103 in May 2005, returns this Sunday as part of the starting line-up of a new online radio station www.manchesterradioonline.com
The station has been put together by former kissogram and ‘avowed Manc’ Dave Foran. Foran combines pub ownership with property development. Stannage has spent the past two years managing two of Foran’s pub – the Ducie Bridge and the Milan.
Irish Alan
Foran has assembled a dozen plus experienced Manchester jocks to get the station going including former Galaxy presenter and Sony award winner Irish Alan and former Radio Caroline DJ Ray Teret.
Stannage was fired by Key 103 following his comments about Ken Bigley in May 2005 – the day after the European Cup Final. Key 103 was subsequently fined £125,000. Stannage is one of Foran’s three shareholding partners in the venture.
The station will feature a solid diet of Manc news and features plus music and Manc opinion.
Foran told How-Do that the idea came to him about six months ago when a friend asked him to help with another online station and he’d brought Stannage along. The resulting feedback and PR was “gobsmacking” so he set about creating his own.
Foran is extremely confident the station will prosper because “You can turn on any radio station in Manchester at the moment and they all basically sound the same – but we’re going to be different.
“We’re already creating a disturbance and I don’t care what anyone says, there is simply no competing with Stannage.”
Foran said initially site will derive its revenue from banner ads and sponsorship but for the present, they don’t intend to broadcast traditional radio commercials.
Foran claims that overt 35,000 people have already visited the holding page for more info and a further 1400 people have signed up for the newsletter.
All of the marketing to date has been online with emphasis on communication through Facebook and My Space.
“We will” said Foran “Be very Manchester focussed.”
