Kisky and co devise iPhone app for virtual gifts this Christmas

If you want to see (or imagine at any rate) the face of a friend or loved one lighting up this Christmas when they unwrap a pixel-powered gift on their iPhone, then read on...

Although How-Do will be sticking to the booze and Terry's Chocolate Oranges on its Xmas list, apparently more and more consumers are being bewitched by virtual gifts - the little twinkling trinkets that folk give to each other on social media sites such as Facebook.

If you want to see (or imagine at any rate) the face of a friend or loved one lighting up this Christmas when they unwrap a pixel-powered gift on their iPhone, then read on...So much so, in fact, that the market for the products is being valued at $1billion this year, with $40million of that coming through the aforementioned FB.

Liverpool's Kisky Media is now looking to tap into that with a new venture, Little World Gifts, and the launch of what it is calling "a groundbreaking" application for the Apple platform in early December.

The Little World Gifts Christmas Store is being made available through iTunes to an international audience and has secured seed funding from Northwest Vision and Media.

Company co-founder Katie Lips said she was "really excited" about the potential of the application and its global launch from the firm's Liverpool base.

The business is currently planning to pitch its idea at Liverpool Software City next week.

The team has been working on the app since June this year.
