The producer of Lancashire Eccles Cakes has decided to take a bold leap into the world of 21st Century marketing with the appointment of Lake to produce its first ever dedicated web presence.

The producer of Lancashire Eccles Cakes has decided to take a bold leap into the world of 21st Century marketing with the appointment of Lake to produce its first ever dedicated web presence.
Site currant-ly under development
Up until now the local delicacy has grown in popularity, and supermarket shelf space, due to a fervent fan base and word of mouth marketing alone.

However, the firm behind the currant filled treats – the aptly named Lancashire Eccles Cakes Ltd – is now looking to engage new audiences with “an informative and interactive website” courtesy of Altrincham’s Lake.

Ann Edmonds, MD of the bakery firm, explained: “Our family has been baking our Eccles Cakes for over 70 years to a secretly-guarded family recipe and with the appointment of Lake we’re delighted to provide our loyal customers with our first ever website about our family run business.”

The agency has also been charged with creating a number of point of sale projects for the firm.

Oh dear Oh dear. At long last I am ont' 'tinternet and find after a visit to our Super Store that a company that calls itself the Lancashire Eccles Cake Co. is proud to make them with raisins in them. Gasp, cries of despair etc.
What would my great, great, great, great grandad have said if alive today? He'd be raisin' the roof ( sorry ) but for the last 65 years I have only made them and eaten those willingly with only currents in them. Wherever they were from.
Why don't you offer a 17th., 18th., 19th.,29th and 21st. variation?

This reminds me of the PR photo opportunity gaffe a few years ago by a local council (I will spare their blushes by not naming it) which invited the world's media to the unveiling of "the world's largest Eccles Cake". Give a guess how "large" that cake was? The size of a football pitch? Concorde? The Humber Bridge? No, it was 36 inches in diameter. I'm not sure even the Manchester Evening News turned up.

Doesn't "secretly-guarded" mean they haven't told anybody it's guarded? Well they've blown that then.
