The Manchester office of Lightmaker has confirmed to How-Do that it has just completed the worldwide site for the launch of the popular Guitar Hero console game on the Nintendo DS.

Lightmaker, which last year built new sites for Habitat and MTV, put the final touches to the site just last week, making it fully functional for an Easter launch.

In its short time in the virtual world it has already won acclaim from the Creative Website Awards, with the agency itself claiming that it is amongst the team’s very best work.

Sameena Hafeez-Imam, a project manager at Lightmaker Manchester, took How-Do through the project.

“The site is a fully flash microsite which will act as the global hub for all other marketing activities around the world, including extensive online advertising, prime time TV and key industry publications,” Hafeez-Iman explained.

“Since the announcement from Nintendo that the popular game would be available for the DS, gamers everywhere have been curious as to how this game could work on the DS format.

“The site not only explains and demonstrates how this will work - with some cool 3D animations and great bits of Lightmaker Manchester flash wizardry - but also will be used to capture user data as part of growing the community for this new game.”

Hafeez-Iman also told How-Do that the team had only two weeks “to get this site briefed in, designed, built, tested and live for the worldwide launch of the new game,” but added that they were extremely pleased with the eventual outcome.

The Guitar Hero series of games is one of the most popular and enduring currently available on gaming consoles.

In January this year it reached the point where the revenue it has created passed the $1b mark, with 14m individual units sold.

Guitar Hero was developed by RedOctane and Activision.
