Figures published by web monitoring service Hitwise, for the first half of this year, show the region’s two biggest football clubs, are also the UK’s two biggest clubs in terms of site traffic.
Overall BBC Sport continues to dominate activity on sports web sites with a market share of 17.17%, up from 15.07% in the first half of 2006.
Sky Sports, the second most popular UK sports web site trails well behind with a 3.6% share of the market.
Last year www.liverpoolfc.tv was the only football club represented in the top ten at number nine with a market share of 1.39%. This year it has climbed to fifth spot and its market share has risen to 1.55%.
www.manutd.com has entered the top ten ranking for the first time with a share of 1.16% of the total sports audience.
