Love Manchester gives Manchester Confidential some competition

Two freelancers have created a news and reviews site for Manchester.

Love Manchester gives Manchester Confidential some competitionRob Hayward, a front end web developer and Liz Deverell-Smith, who specialises in digital marketing, have built Love Manchester as an online guide with news feeds, a cinema guide and reviews.

While they admit that content-wise, what they've done is not necessarily new, they do think the site will be different:

“What Love Manchester does is make all this great content available in one central place. And with Manchester Confidential locking and bolting up behind payment screens, perhaps a fresh new player in the entertainment guide is just what we need,” they explained.

While the site may still be in development, the pair have big aims for the future, saying they want it to be “the most socially connected and innovative city guide for Manchester.”

Love-manchester review tynchy stryder!! is that their target market?? Epic!

@Sally, I think you'll find they haven't.....

I think they have gone out of business already?!

But YUCK they only have 7 articles on their site which is 1/4 of what manchestergossip have on theirs and probably 1/100th of what is on mancon. Apparently content was a judging factor in your early posts.

any website designer will tell you that the layout of lovemanchester is flawed as the most creative area of space for potential advertisers is swamped by the map. Again design was a judging factor in your previous post. here have a read of this extract:

General Design:
Pages download quickly
First page and home page fit into 800 x 600 pixel space
All of the other pages have the immediate visual impact within 800 x 600 pixels
Good use of graphic elements (photos, subheads, pull quotes) to break up large areas of text
Every web page in the site looks like it belongs to the same site; there are repetitive elements that carry throughout the pages (OKAY I'LL GIVE THEM THE LAST ONE)

Either way who do you think their target market is? I wish them the best of look also however as stated in earlier posts unless they have some good salesman they will more than likely be putting this project to bed. Mancon are too far ahead in the game. Manchester Gossip seem to have a competitive edge over love-manchester.

Copied this over from another ManCon piece I questioned; "Can someone tell me what you get for paying membership? With the exception of a really bland and badly written piece about Wetherspoon's moving to Didsbury, every article is free to view. I can also access and book all the'Strictly' offers without being a member. Any negative comment about the new site is removed or plonked behind a pay wall story as I discovered yesterday. Looking at Twitter followers, I don't appear to be the only one wondering what it's all about..."

I asked the same of ManCon and my rant was instantly 'edited' Why? I was asking a genuine question as a potential subscriber. As I said, there's a lot going on at LoveManchester, and I have zilch to do with the site, so wait and see. ManCon have failed badly with their new business model and I see some back-tracking going on. If you can be arsed, try asking about the much-lauded interveiw with Sir Richard Lease, promised three weeks ago. Ask where it is and when it will be publlished. You will find an instant flurry of comments by 'spoof (Editorial) ranters which means it's pushed off the front page and into the ether. Where is the interview Gordo/Schofield? Any chance that HowDo can get an interview with ManCon (no doubt Mr. G) to see how the new site is performing?

Mark, looking at both..i would have to plump for love manchester, i don't enjoy mancons style of writing, it has gone down and down and down and now they are just another "hey, have we got a dining deal for you" website, and they don;t take criticism at all, in fact i have seen comments that they don't like removed within minutes and they want people to pay a tenner for things that i can get just by walking into most places, or looking on their website. love manchester are what 2/3 months old? i'm giving them a chance to show me what they got..what was mancon like when it was 3 months old?? awesome? i think not

And Sally, the map is a great tool, i look where i live and see if there is anything going on around me...i for one like it

'Yuck'...... Here is a dilema for you: Mancon or lovemanchester? Has to be Mancon without fail. If you list your disappointment as lack of content and design then surely your feelings to gossip are replicated for lovemanchester??
You would rather read mancon than manchestergossip as you stated but its obvious you are not gossips' target market but you are for lovemanchester. So really im asking you to not be upset or jealous but to define which you prefer...... mancon or lovemanchester ;)

Mancon all day over love manchester. Is there even anything on love manchester? What's with the map? Oh dear.. Have to agree with Kid disco here....please put something on!! Anything!!

wow, i thought the mancon redesign was bad..but i have just popped onto mcrgossip fron RF's heads up and i think i threw up in my mouth a little...no, hang on...i did. Their site is shockingly ugly, has no real info on it i for one thought i would never say this but i would rather read mancon that mrgossip, it's that bad!

Its interesting: a new player in the market:
mancon, manchestergossip.com and luvmcr. its all about the demographics and target market as we are aware.
