Manchester United teams up with mxData for TravelFC launch | Print |  Email to a friend

Manchester United has become the first club to offer a new service to fans whereby they receive free match day travel alerts direct to their mobile phones.
Man U and TravelFC: a result
The new initiative has been launched by mxData, which has offices in Wilmslow and London, and allows fans to get to matches (hopefully) without getting stuck along the way by giving them access to a host of information.

This includes CCTV images of motorway and A-road hotspots, recommended car parks and up-to-date information on train, tram and bus times.

All of this is integrated with live updates on delays and incidents and is free to download on most current mobile handsets.

The service also includes listings of pubs, restaurants, hotels and other points of interest.

It will be funded by advertising, which will be sold into the service from mxData’s Wilmslow base.

Although Manchester United is the only club to have signed up to TravelFC at the time of writing, it is understood that the firm is currently negotiating with other UK teams.

This was given credence by a statement from David James, mxData’s CEO, who said: “We believe that football clubs will increasingly see the value of communicating with supporters via their mobile phone and hope to launch TravelFC with more clubs going forward.”

Finally a decent app for my phone. The traffic cams are a god send for my daily commute. Well done to the guys at mxData. Just shows we've got some great talent in the northwest.

Can these guys develop an application to direct the ball into the back of the net?
Its a great idea as long as the CCTV images they show don't enable the wife to follow me around the bars after the game!
