Michael Welch to appear in court on 12 December | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 30 November 2007
Following How-Do’s story on Wednesday about the whereabouts of one Michael Welch, we are able to reveal that his next performance will be in front of magistrates in Warrington on 12 December.

He is facing three counts of fraud.

The other person due to appear in court is Ann Hunt, Welch's former partner.

For a period around 2003, Welch was the great white hope of the digital industries in the North West.  But he subsequently disappeared from sight as rumours and bills mounted up.

A statement from the NWDA follows:

NWDA statement regarding Digital Industries Northwest

Steven Zdolyny, Director of Legal Services at the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), said:

“In September 2004, the NWDA was alerted to alleged financial irregularities at Digital Industries Northwest (DINW). The Agency moved swiftly to instigate a rigorous independent audit, to investigate these allegations.

“As custodians of public money, the Agency takes any allegation of financial impropriety extremely seriously. Once this audit confirmed there was a potential fraud, the Agency terminated its agreement with DINW and referred the allegations immediately to the police.

“The Agency is aware that following a thorough police investigation, criminal action has now been commenced against two individuals in relation to this matter.

“It is inappropriate for the Agency to make any further public statement whilst these criminal proceedings are active, but will do so upon the conclusion of those proceedings.”
