Manchester-based social media specialist Modern English has developed a Facebook app for Swizzels Matlow, the confectionery company responsible for Love Hearts.
The app allows people to send romantic messages to each other, just in time for Valentine's Day.
App users also have the the chance of winning "limited edition retro-inspired" Love Hearts tins full of mini sweets, and those who use the app to propose could win "wedding favours".
Modern English's managing director Bruce Thomas said: “It has been so much fun to work with one of the UK’s best loved confectionery brands.
"Since it’s a leap year, we’re hoping the ladies will pluck up the courage to hit the ‘Marry Me’ button; a fair few already have! Whether you have someone to propose to or not, the app is a fun way to send messages to family, friends and that special someone.”
Sarah-Louise Heslop, marketing manager at Swizzels Matlow, said: “Our fans are a romantic bunch so launching this fabulous Facebook app in time for Valentine’s Day made perfect sense.
"Now that Facebook fans can propose online we could be responsible for a summer of social media weddings.”
The New Mills-based, which also makes Parma Violets and Refreshers, employs around 600 staff at its headquarters in New Mills and distribution centre at Adlington, near Macclesfield.
