Simon Nixon, the founder of Moneysupermarket.com in Chester has launched a new travel website.
Simonseeks.com went live this morning with a promise to be the “YouTube of travel.”
The man behind Travelsupermarket.com said his inspiration was a passion for travel and a “frustration at being able to find good quality travel guides.”
“I’ve built the site for me - but I’m sure many other people will also find it useful.”
Desperately seeking Simon The reviews are being done by travellers, journalists and celebrities and contributors get paid once their articles are rated by readers. Among the 300 online at the moment are some by BBC expert, Simon Calder.
The company claims that it will pay reviewers half of the net revenue from a user responding to a recommendation in a guide or clicking on an ad or link.
To prevent unscrupulous travel companies jumping in with their own reviews, Nixon says that all articles are vetted by an editorial team before they are published.
Reviews are listed by destination, style and price - eg Paris & romance or New Zealand & adventure - to help with searches and matching reader's budgets.
Nixon has also linked with travel agents and tour operators for price comparisons and booking.
He floated Moneysupermarket and Travelsupermarket on the stock exchange in 2007 for £850m and remains a majority shareholder in Moneysupermarket.
