Price comparison site, Moneysupermarket.com, has said it plans to increase the amount it spends on press advertising in the coming year.
The Chester/North Wales company added that its spend on search engine advertising, primarily with Google, will increase from £35m last year to over £50m in the current year. Analysts at stockbroker Numis Securities believe that MSM now accounts for over 3% of Google’s UK revenues.
TV advertising is expected to stay largely constant at around £18m but press advertising will increase markedly.
The company has now said that it feels that in common with many online businesses, they had perhaps not fully derived the best from a medium that remains highly effective in “building brands offline.”
As over half of the site’s traffic now comes directly rather than by clicking from another site or referrer, the company’s chief executive Simon Nixon believes that more use of press will better balance the company’s current focus on TV and online.
Moneysupermarket currently supplies data for a number of print titles including newspapers and magazines.
